  • Laurine, France 21 August 2020

Today we would like to share with you Laurine’s story. Laurine was diagnosed in 2015 with triple-negative breast cancer, and she has recently received amazing news. She has wrote it in her own words (French), so we have attached a “Google-Translate version” for you. We thank you so much for your kind words, and for sharing these!

    Google-Translate version:
During the past 5 years of treatment for my triple-negative breast cancer, which has metastasized to the lung and mediastinum, I have received several lines of chemotherapy without results. I have lost faith in the few therapeutic options left for me in France. I have learned from the experience of French patients who have obtained excellent results thanks to the clinic (Hallwang Clinic). I got in touch with the clinic for more information. After having started a fund raising campaign to help finance the treatment offered by the Hallwang Clinic I contacted them. In March 2020 I learned that my cancer was progressing (5 new cancerous foci). I was part of a clinical trial which ended because of the progression. So I decided to leave short-termed in April 2020 (in order to start treatment at the Hallwang Clinic). After 2,5 months of personalized treatment my MRI shows a complete metabolic response. I still cannot believe this extraordinary result which I hope will continue. It is just magic. My second life begins. Thanks to the staff and medical team who are extremely kind.

  • Darta, Hodgkin’s lymphoma 4 June 2020
    Darta, Hodgkin’s lymphoma

Darta, a patient at our clinic, has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. In this short video, Darta will tell you about the odyssey she went through, from diagnosis to treatment, and how she came across the Hallwang Clinic in February this year. We are happy that the last scan has shown that the treatments are working, which inspires us, and hopefully you as well, to consider and evaluate more patient-individualized treatment concepts for patients in need

  • Nathalie, Metastatic cervical cancer 27 March 2020

We would like to share with you Nathalie’s story. Nathalie was initially diagnosed with a fatigue syndrome until it was found out in August 2019 that in fact she suffers from metastatic cervical cancer. Nathalie wrote her story in her own words (in French), and we have attached a “Google-Translate version” for you. Nathalie, we thank you for your open and wonderful words, and are so happy that you have allowed us to share your story with our Facebook family!

    English (translation):
In August 2019 I learned that my fatigue syndrome was actually unfortunately metastasized cervical cancer. The official treatments available in France for this cancer – chemo by Carboplatin / Taxol – have existed for thirty to forty years, without having evolved. They do not heal. It is death guaranteed between one and two years.

I know this because I am a doctor. My French oncologist offered me chemo and explained the protocol but without announcing anything about the prognosis.

Through a friend, I heard about the Hallwang clinic in Germany. She had chemo for her refractory triple negative breast cancer. This cancer is so aggressive that she even metastasized under chemo! Despite the fact that she was declared “lost” by her oncologist with an estimated lifespan of a few weeks, she went to Germany for treatment. Thanks to treatment at the Hallwang Clinic, she went into complete remission after four and a half months, and is still in remission today.

So I called the clinic. I really appreciated the speed of the treatment and the clarity of the explanations. Unlike the French healthcare system where the patient is passive – the doctor explains but the patient is not really listened to -, at the Hallwang clinic I really had the feeling of participating in the decision of care and being heard. Each patient has a specific treatment adapted to his/her case according to the latest medical advances.

I was able to quickly benefit from “tailor-made” treatments from the beginning of October. After two months, the PET-scan showed an almost complete remission with disappearance of all metastases.

Due to lack of funding, I could not continue the care at the clinic. French medicine is struggling to take over, although my case is very promising since it responds well to immunotherapy. It is very difficult to be treated in France as soon as you “get out of the huts” of the rigid national protocol. Unfortunately, I am just one example among many.

I would like to thank the whole team at Hallwang Clinic for their hospitality and especially Doctor Nolting for his competence, his commitment, his enthusiasm and his faith in medicine and in people.

He has already given me months of life and renewed energy, which is an invaluable gift.

  • Victoria – United States 23 March 2020

My name is Victoria and I’m from the US. I was originally diagnosed with hormone positive breast cancer in August 2018 and subsequently rediagnosed with advanced breast cancer which had spread to my bones. lymph nodes and lungs in 2019.

My oncologist in the US did not offer much hope and recommended palliative care which had to be preceded by a major shoulder surgery (full shoulder replacement). She also encouraged me to enjoy what little time I had left with my seven year old daughter and family. I was more devastated after my visit with oncologist than after the diagnosis. I felt good overall and just could not accept such a pessimistic outlook.

I started researching my options. I strongly felt that I need to find a healing environment and a doctor I can trust. I spent days zooming in on the most promising treatment options and interviewing different clinics. It is truly overwhelming – one feels like navigating a maze in full darkness. So many things were at stake for me – my life, future of my family (including their financial well-being in case if I do not make it and spend all family savings on treatments not covered by insurance), etc.

After the first few minutes of talking to Dr. Nolting at Hallwang, I knew that I’ve found what I was looking for. There were no promises, no miracle claims, just a calm, confident and very knowledgeable discussion of my options. It was very clear to me that the aim of my treatment would be to do everything possible to heal me. I suddenly felt at peace. I decided right there and then that Hallwang is the best path for me. And I’m so happy I did!

Although it is too early to claim the full victory, I’m thrilled with the progress so far. Besides feeling great, my most recent CT scan showed impressive progress – many tumors shrank up to 70{987e737ef2de5b0b8a715b0bf2345bf197cd4792dce81c29180dd96bd2cf0086}. I feel no shoulder pain, the arm mobility improved and my oncologist in the US agreed to wait on the surgery option. I’m confident that the surgery won’t be needed after all. This is quite incredible – if I did not go to Hallwang, I would have been in a bad situation now.

I’m truly grateful to Dr. Nolting and the clinic. The environment there is part of the healing process. Every single member of the team goes out of the way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Administrative team is outstanding – speedy, professional and caring. I’m impressed with how they handle every request, every phone call and every issue. Nothing seems like a big deal to them. The medical and nursing team is in its own league! I never felt so loved and so relaxed at a clinic. And their professionalism is beyond impressive. I should also mention the food and catering staff. High quality, lovingly prepared and served – such a joy to go for every meal.”

  • Update on Alice from France, Triple-negative breast cancer 10 March 2020

    Since 44 months!

PET-scan shows that Alice is still in complete remission. Immunotherapy for relapsed TNBC began 44 months ago. We are so happy!!

  • John from Australia, HCC 25 February 2020

John, diagnosed with HCC, travelled all the way from Australia to us, and we would like to share with you his story:

“I was diagnosed with liver cancer (HCC) in March 2019. A large tumor on my right lobe and several on my left which had invaded the portal vein and was non recectable I was advised the only thing available was(SIRT) internal radiation beads to give me more time

2 weeks later I had the proceedure and I became very sick and lost weight dramatically. My wife Suzi and family began to do research for all options imunotheropey seemed the best option we happened to know a lady who had spent time in the hallwang clinic in Germany and six years later she was still clear of her breast and multiple secondary cancer. Australia had given her 4 mths to live. Although there wasn’t a lot of concrete results for HCC after speaking to Dr Nolting I was confident it was my only option i emediatly left for Germany.

On arrival I was greeted with warm caring staff and after a long consultation with Dr Nolting I began a combination theropy of IDO-Strategy, including anti-PD1 (nivolumab), as well as daily infusions for liver support. Over the next 3 weeks

My 59th birthday fell at the end of July and the kitchen chef baked me a cake and all the staff presented it I was very touched as I hadn’t said a word

Leaving at the start of August for home I felt more determined than ever that I was going to beat this I have been a fighter all my life and I saw this as my biggest challenge

Several weeks after returning I had an ultra sound and a MRI which showed no visible tumor although my liver was still not functioning well I followed up with a PET scan and it showed some mild activity still there

I knew I was having a win so I returned to hallwang for a further two weeks treatment in september on returning home I had organised to get anti-PD1

Here in sydney once a month after September my blood results started to improve dramatically The oncologists and specialist here are amazed although the treatment is a combination including vaccines NOT available here I know with the research I’ve done it wouldn’t have worked without the vaccine I returned to hallwang in Jan 2020

And welcomed like one of the family I can’t speak highly enough of them including the owner Albert. In my time there I seen miricals for people who had no hope including myself My liver function and tumor markers are now normal.

Hallwang is not for everyone as it is expensive but what price to you put on your or loved ones life?

I all along thought if they prolong my life it’s worth everything I have because without life we have nothing.

I’m looking forward to seeing the team at hallwang in July for a top up and a holiday.

    Regards
    John S.

John, thank you so much for sharing this with our Facebook family, and we are very much looking forward to seeing you soon!

  • S., breast cancer 7 February 2020

Here some encouraging results from one of our breast cancer patients. S. (wants to stay anonymous, but happy to share results) first arrived in our clinic in June last year, after having received the devastating diagnosis of left-sided breast cancer with lymph node metastases.

Her mother had just been successfully treated at our clinic for ovarian cancer (now in complete remission), so S. turned to us for help. Analysis of her tumor tissue revealed positivity for several treatment targets, so a multimodal treatment strategy including antibody treatment and further immunotherapy was initiated.

Already in October 2016, a tumor mass could not be identified anymore in the left breast and S. achieved a complete remission status. She now decided to undergo a breast-conserving surgical treatment with axillary lymphadenectomy and is doing great. We are so happy to share these amazing results!

  • Naumka F from Canada, Breast Cancer 20 January 2020

We would like to share with you another heart-warming and inspiring story from our clinic! This is Naumka and her husband Dr. Ronald F. from Canada. Naumka was diagnosed with breast cancer 18 months ago. Now, in early January 2020 her “CT scan in Canada reported NO evidence of prior locations of cancer”. We are so happy for her and her family, congratulations!

LETTER TO HALLWANG PRIVATE ONCOLOGY CLINIC

From Hallwang patient Mrs. Naumka Nina F. with chaperoning husband Dr. Ronald F. – January 2020

18 months ago I was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer in my country Canada. I was given no hope for recovery by Canadian oncologists. I am pleased to share my true story to encourage others to consider another opportunity for help.

When I was updating my devastating news in August 2018 with my Canadian dentist Dr. Leo Gonzalez he changed my dental appointment into a lengthy personal heartfelt consultation in which he suggested that I consider a private clinic in Germany. He was educated in Germany.

From that time my husband began extensive research and after he spoke twice by phone with Hallwang’s senior oncologist, Dr. Nolting and forwarded my file documentation, we met Dr. Nolting who patiently explained in extensive medical detail the meaning of the diagnosis and of proposed treatments. Everyone at Hallwang clinic since our first moment has been so warmly supportive and encouraging… we have truly become friends.

After the first 5 days in September 2018, my daily blood testing for tumor markers such as CA 15-3 confirmed improvements. When I expressed initially to Dr. Nolting how impressed I was with him, he modestly replied… “I am even more impressed with you.”

Throughout subsequent visits for further assessments and treatments, some of which were changed to different tests and treatments in response to ongoing response reports I met other patients from around the world whose true stories, some with very rare cancers all described being damaged from traditional treatments and being left no hope in their home countries. I now keep in contact with many of them worldwide via email as new friends. In early January 2020 my CT scan in Canada reported NO evidence of prior locations of cancer and I have no symptoms.

I have come to feel that Hallwang clinic is my second home. I wish to express my gratitude to Drs. Nolting, Zarouff, Muhe, Wronka, and every one of the competent comforting nurses and other health professionals on the team … everyone’s expertise and their results are equalled by their sincerity !

In my opinion the entire team deserves a Nobel Peace Prize… bringing not only renewed health to others, but also PEACE. The chefs and all kitchen staff make one’s stay at Hallwang a first-class experience to which we always look forward. My special mention to oncologist Dr. Nora Muhe who touched my heart by holding my hands together emphasizing “you are not sick.” With her unique caring and humble uplifting spirit she even invited me to go shopping. We noted from the beginning and have witnessed ever since starting the truth in Hallwang’s mottos.. “to do as much as possible conservatively and naturally, but as traditionally as necessary” and “you are unique, and your treatment will be unique.” Dr. Nolting prescribes various standard oncology tests and treatments, some FDA-approved that have been continued in Canada.

Nevertheless, the Hallwang clinic truly has its own irreplaceable UNIQUE diagnostic and therapeutic approaches that are not available anywhere else and that are essential to each person’s recovery to detoxify the body, strengthen the immune system, identify complex abnormalities, correct hormone imbalances and more. I also wish to thank my long time best Canadian medical physician Dr. Z. Rona for his big part in my journey before and since including my essential Hallwang clinic help. My honourable mention is for my son Dave whose consistent love and support reinforces my lifelong pride in calling him my son, a wonderful human being.… but it is not only for these reasons that I feel that I am the most fortunate person in the world… it is also that I am married to the best human being, my husband Ron whose tireless medical researching, consultations with physicians, and minute to minute support, encouragement and PARTNERSHIP, along with God’s guidance, has carried me on this successful journey.

I invite others in need to read the Hallwang clinic website and consider if this clinic’s approaches may be appropriate (www.hallwang-clinic.com). Their several oncologists are board-certified (in USA, Germany and the European Society of Medical Oncology) in each of the medical specialities of oncology, haematology and internal medicine.

In addition to their UNIQUE combination of superior educational accomplishments and their close relationships with other world top cancer researchers and specialists, the Hallwang clinic health professionals are first and foremost humane human beings. Another Hallwang motto : “A relationship based on TRUST between doctor and patient is just as important as the treatment itself.”

  • Update on Alice from France, Triple-negative breast cancer 15 January 2020

We are happy to share a new update from Alice. Alice had a very aggressive relapse of TNBC before she came to our clinic in 2016. Now, in January 2020 more than 2 years in complete remission under immunotherapy! We are SOOO happy for you!

“We came to the Hallwang oncology clinic because Alice was treated in France for a very aggressive relapse of a triple negative breast cancer in April 2016. Unfortunately the chemotherapy treatment given in France gave no result and it was impossible to have an immunotherapy in France either in a clinical trial or directly. After 8 weeks of targeted immunotherapy treatment in Hallwang combined with a chemotherapy in France, Alice has been in a almost complete remission in august 2016. Targeted immunotherapy is continued and Alice is in complete remission at the date of october 2 2019 since 22 months.”

  • Head & Neck tumor 26 July 2019

“After sending our medical notes and having the first Phone call with Dr Nolting, I knew if anyone could help us he could! He spoke perfect English but way too fast -the passion in his voice to save my husband was astounding, he explained thoroughly over and over until I 100{987e737ef2de5b0b8a715b0bf2345bf197cd4792dce81c29180dd96bd2cf0086} understood the medical Jargon!

On our first of many visits to this tiny place In what felt like the middle of nowhere we were pleasantly surprised at lack of grandeur! This place was homeley, and welcoming the girls were all friendly yet knew every last detail down to a tee and gave a new meaning to the word efficiency. My husband had been told he wouldn’t make Christmas, we were heartbroken vulnerable and naive however that soon changed to positive, informed and hopeful! Results on nicks first scan only 9 weeks into treatment proved we’d made the best decision! Nicks tumors in his liver had totally gone along with his lungs and four out of five bones were all tumor free with the last in his shoulder been greatly reduced in size! – we’re ecstatic! Not only do I feel so grateful my husband will be around to watch our 3 year old twins grow up but I’m grateful we found this quirky little place and we were handled with hope and genuine care. If my husbands results hadn’t have been as amazing as they are I would have still maintained that every single person At the Hallwang boosted his spirits and gave him the lift he needed to keep fighting this truly awful disease- keep doing what your going guys love the Dippers xx”

  • Isabelle from France, Triple-negative breast cancer 20 May 2019

As you know, triple negative breast cancer is hard to treat and prognosis is often poor. But luckily, new advances have been made in cancer immunotherapy to help people with this diagnosis. Unfortunately, not everybody meets the criteria to enter clinical trials using new immunotherapeutics. We are happy to share Isabelle‘s encouraging experience at our clinic and we are so happy she is doing so well! In France she could only be offered palliative chemo and now she has achieved complete remission after 5 months of combined treatments Congratulations!

    Isabelle, France:
“I was diagnosed at age 40 with a stage II triple negative cancer in both breasts, with BRACA mutation. Despite the heavy treatments I received successively (neoadjuvant chemotherapy, mastectomy and lumpectomy, adjuvant chemotherapy, radiotherapy), my cancer continued to progress very rapidly and metastasized to different parts of the body (liver, bones and ganglions). At this stage, I was proposed a palliative chemotherapy to slowdown the evolution of the disease, provided that my body was responsive to it. I had heard of a promising treatment with immunotherapy for triple negative breast cancer. But the only way to obtain this treatment in France was to integrate one of the clinical trials. Unfortunately they were refused because I did not fit the criteria of the studies. Thus, after launching a crowdfunding campaign, I decided to go to Germany in november 2018 for new treatment options. Indeed, I knew a french patient with a diagnosis very close of mine who was successfully treated there. After less than 5 months of targeted immunotherapy and personalised treatment in Hallwang combined with a chemotherapy in France, I am now in complete remission. Youpi !”

  • Victoria, Breast cancer 16 May 2019

Here an open letter from one of our patients about her experience at our clinic. Vicki, thank you so much for your encouraging and uplifting letter! It is for patients like you that we go all the way and continue our work!

Hello there I have seen some bad press lately about the clinic and just thought I would send a message of thanks and appreciation to all of you. Not only have I had healing from my treatments at Hallwang but I have met some of the most amazing people – Drs, nurses, and office staff. I feel so loved and supported there I think that could be enough to heal someone. I am so blessed to be able to have been given the opportunity for treatment at Hallwang.

I just wanted to say thank you for all you have done for me. When I arrived back in Dec I had so much bone pain I couldn’t stand up straight or take a deep breath. I was weak and needed help to walk a distance. I was thin and had lost a lot of weight. I was doing so poorly the family had flown my kids out to Germany to spend Christmas with me because I wasn’t sure we would have another to spend together. After receiving treatment at Hallwang that has changed. I feel very well. My pain is gone. My weight is back to normal and I am much stronger. I saw my US doctor last week and he said I look better than he has ever seen me look (he has been my doctor for 10 + years). Thank you for putting up with all my crazy philosophies on health and the questioning I do. You are always understanding and open to what I ask and say. I appreciate that so much. There are not many doctors that are as kind and understanding as you (or have such a great sense of humor).

Many doctors are too scared of what others might think to offer treatments that go beyond the conventional “standard of care” Many heroic doctors and scientist in history – that have achieved outstanding things in this world – had to go against the conventions of society and ignore what the ignorant say and continue on with their life’s work. Know you are a hero to me with the work you are doing.

I am sorry to hear of the negative press the clinic has gotten. These are the times when the tough stay strong and show what they are made of.

Looking forward to seeing again you soon!
    Victoria

  • Update on S. (wants to stay anonymous), breast cancer 23 April 2019

In 2016, we posted very encouraging results from one of our breast cancer patients – S. (wants to stay anonymous). She arrived first in June 2016 in our clinic, after having received the devastating diagnosis of left-sided breast cancer with lymph node metastases.

Already in October 2016, a tumor mass could not be identified anymore and S. achieved complete remission. She underwent breast-conserving surgical treatment with axillary lymphadenectomy and continued maintenance immunotherapy including antibody treatment every 3 to 6 months with one day of treatment. Her latest PET-CT-Scan results from last month revealed no evidence of metastasizing or secondary tumor, and S. remains in complete remission status. S. is happy to share the results, and we are so happy for you S.!

  • Update on Minkara N., Refractory relapsed stage IV ovarian cancer 3 April 2019

*4 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF COMPLETE REMISSION*

We would like to share the wonderful news with you that Minkara, who was diagnosed with refractory relapsed Stage IV ovarian cancer, is now 4 years in complete remission under immunotherapy. Minkara N., was diagnosed with metastatic ovarian cancer, and after surgery she received chemotherapy – Taxol, Avastin, Gemcitabine and Caelyx. Unfortunately, MRI showed persistent pelvic metastasis and so Minkara came to the Hallwang Clinic for further treatment. Initially, in 2013, a transarterial chemoembolization was performed and she received antibody treatment, whereupon remission status was reached. Treatment was escalated to different checkpoints on several occasions together with further specific immunotherapy (tumor tissue was analyzed thoroughly before treatment). Minkara reached complete remission in 2015, and four! years later we are happy to confirm that she is still in complete remission. We are so happy that targeted cancer immunotherapy has been working for you, Minkara!

  • Update on Minkara N., Refractory relapsed stage IV ovarian cancer 17 December 2018

We already reported about Minkara early this year and are happy to share the updated news with you that she is still in complete remission thanks to a combined immunotherapeutic treatment strategy.

  • Bruce, Malignant Melanoma 18 September 2018

We received good news for one of our patients and are happy to share these with you on Bruce’s behalf.

Bruce was diagnosed in May 2013 with stage IIIC malignant melanoma of his right foot with a micrometastastic disease in 1/7 lymph nodes from the right popliteal and groin area. In July of the same year, a dissection took place and Bruce decided to not receive the adjuvant interferon treatment, before he underwent a new biopsy in October 2013, confirming progressive disease. A few of the skin metastases were resected, and he underwent hyperthermic limb perfusion therapy. Unfortunately, in February 2014, the disease progressed even further. Analysis of Bruce’s tumor biopsy showed a BRAF-V600E mutation.

So he started on the BRAF/MEK inhibitor dabrafenib and trametinib, which he took for nearly a year and a half. In July 2015, a restaging scan was unfortunately suggestive of disease progression, so Bruce started checkpoint-antibody treatment with nivolumab. Unfortunately, three months under this treatment, Bruce developed a grade III colitis (inflammation of the colon), that needed to be treated with corticosteroids. Disappointingly, Bruce was no longer able to continue the treatment. Once he fully recovered, he started on vemurafenib and cobimetinib (a different BRAF/MEK-inhibitor) treatment in January 2016, and searched for further options – and contacted our team at the Hallwang clinic.

At the Hallwang Clinic, we started with a thorough diagnostic approach and first screened Bruce’s tumor tissue for tumor associated antigens in order to identify potential therapeutic targets. Bruce’s tumor tissue was tested positive for expression of Melan-A and Survivin. When Bruce visited us in April 2016 for the first time, we discussed a treatment with a so called trifunctional antibody approach – targeting anti-GD2. GD2 is a marker which is expressed on tumors of neuroectodermal origin, and thus often found in melanoma patients, as well as in patients with neuroblastoma and different kinds of sarcomas. To evaluate Bruce’s eligibility for this treatment, a blood analysis for circulating-GD2 positive cells was performed, showing that his tumor was highly GD2-positive (3+). Having completed all diagnostic steps and after careful evaluation, Bruce started on a combined immunotherapeutic approach targeting TAA’s in combination with anti-GD2 treatment and the BRAF/MEK-inhibitor. Since then, Bruce is visiting us every three months for three days, continuing his treatment strategy. Bruce has now achieved and maintained a “no evidence of disease“ status (NED) for about 2 and 1/2 years now, and 5 years since diagnosis!! We are so happy for you, Bruce! Continue on this path!

  • Hallwang Clinic Video from Stage IV Colorectal cancer patient Marc 23 August 2018

Mark, a 45-year old patient at our clinic, has been diagnosed with Stage IV colorectal cancer with metastases in the liver and lung. Mark was first diagnosed in 2016 and after chemotherapy and antibody treatment in the UK, he came to the Hallwang clinic in 2018 with progressive disease. At Hallwang, a combined immunotherapeutic strategy was initiated – with success. His recent CT scan showed significant tumor burden reduction and Mark is now being evaluated for local ablation of the residual tumor

  • Jayden, Glioblastoma multiforme 26 April 2018

We would like to share with you Jayden’s story.

Jayden was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme just last year, one month before his 17th birthday. He had to undergo surgery and combined radiotherapy with temozolomide. Temozolomide was then discontinued, as the tumor reocurred, and another surgery was performed followed by chemotherapy. In the last months, Jayden´s condition worsened rapidly with increased immobility and loss of vision. He was unable to open his left eye. That is when Jayden first came to the Hallwang Clinic, and was started on a combined immunotherapeutic strategy.

Now, 2 months later, Jayden’s condition has improved, he has started moving his legs and arms again, and is able to open his left eye occasionally. It is still a way to go, but we are happy Jayden is gaining more strength every day now.

  • Minkara N., Refractory relapsed stage IV ovarian cancer 14 February 2018

Refractory relapsed Stage IV ovarian cancer now 3 years in complete remission under immunotherapy

The hope and aim behind cancer immunotherapy is that it induces a durable, long-lasting immune response. One of our patients, Minkara N., was diagnosed with metastatic ovarian cancer in 2012, and after surgery she received chemotherapy – Taxol, Avastin, Gemcitabine and Caelyx. Unfortunately, MRI showed persistent pelvic metastasis and so Minkara came to Hallwang Clinic for further treatment. Initially, in 2013, a transarterial chemoembolization was performed and she received antibody treatment, whereupon remission status was reached. Treatment was escalated to different checkpoints on several occasions together with further specific immunotherapy (tumor tissue was analyzed thoroughly before treatment). Minkara reached complete remission in 2015, and three years later we are happy to confirm that she is still in complete remission. For maintenance treatment she now receives solely immunotherapy 3 times per year. We are so happy that targeted cancer immunotherapy has been working for you, Minkara and wish you all the best for the coming years!

  • Update on Matthew from Australia, Sarcoma 22 January 2018

About a year ago we posted Matt´s story, a young gentleman with a rare type of sarcoma, who travelled with his mother Jennifer all the way from Australia to us! Back then he said ” Everything was laid out before me, and I was offered a targeted approach, something which had not been offered to me previously. After two visits to the clinic I saw and felt a noticeable difference with my tumors. It is safe to say that the targeted has worked in my case, and I’m very pleased with the results.”

So now, one year later, we wanted to see how he was going and how he is responding to treatment. We are so happy to hear from Matt´s father that Matt and his family „ are pleased with the progress, Matt has returned to work as an Engineer doing 3 days a week and living independently approximately three hours away from our home. Matt appears to be healthier and has gained some weight (now 54kg).” Matt and his family are grateful for the” live saving contribution to Matthew’s survival he received by your wonderful Doctors and medical staff.”

We are happy to hear that the last PET scan reveals that “overall most lesions have shown a reduction in size or avidity”.

Matt, we wish you and your family all the best for the future and the best treatment outcome possible.

  • Hande, Triple-negative breast cancer 12 January 2018

We want to share with you Hande’s story. Hande is a 36-year-old lovely young lady and mother of a 2-year-old wonderful daughter.

Unfortunately, at age 35, Hande was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer, at time of diagnosis no metastases were present. In February 2017, she received her last dose of neoadjuvant chemotherapy, followed by surgery removing a 2.3 cm tumor and sentinel lymph nodes. Radiotherapy was completed in April 2017. In September 2017, a PET scan then showed multiple metastases to the lung, liver, lymph nodes and bone. On MRI, also brain metastases were diagnosed. Hande and her family were devastated.

In October 2017, Hande came to the Hallwang Clinic and received a combined immunotherapeutic approach with chemotherapy and personalized strategies, along with supportive treatments. Now, before the year 2017 ended, Hande and her family received the wonderful news that she is in complete remission! Her last scans from December show no sign of disease anymore, also her MRI of the brain is completely clear.

  • Dino, Colon Cancer 2 January 2018
  • Anonymous 10 November 2017

We would like to share with you another story highlighting the impact of treatment with anti-GD-2, a trifunctional antibody, one of the latest members of the trifunctional Ab platform.

One of our patients (male, 58 yrs old) was diagnosed with melanoma and metastases to the liver, bone, spleen, lung and peritoneum. He was previously treated with chemotherapy, sorafenib, hyperthermia and dendritic cell vaccine. At the clinic, he received Anti-GD-2 treatment for 6 weeks, side effects were mild and well controlled. 10 weeks after, a PET scan was performed and already showed remarkable reduction of metastases, see images below.

Anti-GD-2 treatment can be applied in many different solid tumors and can induce a therapeutic vaccination (see diagram).

  • KA. Wants to stay anonymous, renal cell carcinoma 28 October 2017

One of our patients, KA (wants to stay anonymous) was diagnosed with metastatic renal cell carcinoma in 2006. After nephrectomy and a tyrosine kinase inhibitor for a year he was symptomfree for 8 years, but then unfortunately developed recurrent disease with lung metastases in 2014, followed by a segment resection of the lung on two occasions. After this, he turned to us for further diagnostics and treatment, a Next-generation Sequencing and screening for tumor antigens (TAA screening) was performed on his tumor tissue to find out more about the genetic characteristics of his tumor tissue and surface markers, which revealed several tumor targets. KA then received targeted immunotherapeutic treatment. A PET scan beginning of 2016 showed no evidence of disease. Unfortunately, later that year the patient developed brain metastasis, which was successfully treated. A new diagnostic screening of the tumor tissue was performed, and the patient again received targeted treatment specifically directed against the targets found on the new tumor tissue. Fortunately, more than one year later now KA is still in remission, showing the durable tumor response to immunotherapy. His last scan was just performed last week, which confirmed no evidence of disease. We are so happy for you, KA!

  • Paul from UK 26 June 2017

My name is Paul Thomas-Peter, I’m 59 years old and from the UK. In early 2014 I was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the skin on my right temple. It was removed and I was assured that it rarely spread. Later that year I found tiny lumps near my right ear, they were removed and it was confirmed that my cancer had metastasised.

I went on to have a partial neck dissection to remove all the lymph nodes and the parotid gland in the right side of my neck. I then had 35 days of radiotherapy combined with two doses of platinum based chemotherapy. My treatment ended in November 2014 and I was told there was a good chance of a cure.

In March 2015 the results of a CT scan showed that despite the treatment, my cancer had spread to the mediastinal lymph nodes in my chest. I was told it would continue spreading, it was terminal and no further treatment other than palliative care was available. I was told I had between 3 and 18 months to live.

I have never accepted that nothing could be done, I tried a number of natural therapies including changing my diet, details are in my blog: http://www..tryingtobeatcancer.org.uk This seemed to slow down the rate of spread but never stopped it.

My wife Helen and I continued looking at possible treatments and in late 2016 read about immunotherapy. We found that it had shown remarkable results in cases of my cancer and similar cancers. We discussed the possibility of receiving immunotherapy with our oncologist in York and had a second opinion at the Royal Marsden hospital in London. Essentially, although the drugs we wanted had been approved for use within the NHS they were not approved for my specific cancer, so I couldn’t be given them even if I paid for them myself.. The attitude of the NHS to immunotherapy was negative and it didn’t seem that the people we spoke to had much knowledge about it.

In January 2017 we read an article in The Sunday Times about people funding their treatment abroad and this article mentioned The Hallwang Clinic. We contacted them immediately, had my diagnosis and previous scan results sent to them and they were positive about my prospects. They insisted on testing my tissue samples before committing to a treatment plan which reassured me of their professionalism and knowledge. They phoned me at home after the tests were complete, explained what had been found and explained what treatment they felt I should receive, noting that it had an excellent chance of success.

It was a breath of fresh air to be spoken to as an adult and have things explained rather than being treated like a 6 year old who wouldn’t understand. I felt they were on my side, trying to cure me and would do their utmost to do so. I have to admit I was in tears after the phone call, I had hope again.

We attended the Hallwang Clinic in early March 2017. By this time I had survived 6 months longer than my NHS oncologist’s outside prognosis but I had gone downhill rapidly during January and February 2017. I believe that in early March 2017 I only had weeks to live, I was short of breath, had difficulty walking for any reasonable distances and had developed a terrible cough due to the tumours in my chest.

The doctors and staff at the Hallwang were incredible, they treated me like an adult and it was clear they had my best interest at heart. I had my treatment and the reasons for deciding on it explained in some detail which gave me confidence in it as I like to know what is happening. I was treated with different immunotherapy drugs, a personalised combination of treatments aimed at what my specific cancer was doing inside my body. Because of how ill I was, I was also put on a short course of antibiotics and also a low dose of chemotherapy in tablet form to prevent my condition worsening before the immunotherapy treatment began to work. I also had a PET CT scan so that we knew exactly where we stood and can measure the effects of the treatment.

This approach is something I would never have received from the NHS or any medical facility in the UK whether I paid for it or not. It is leading edge treatment, but well documented not experimental, it is personalised to me and my cancer.

The facilities at the Hallwang Clinic are excellent as well; the rooms are clean, spacious and well equipped, the food is excellent and the atmosphere is positive. The facilities allow for relatives to stay with you and there is 24 hour medical cover although I haven’t needed it thankfully.

The treatment began to work within 3 weeks, which is earlier than expected.. Tumours visible on and in my body began to disappear, some overnight. I had an examination by my NHS oncologist who was surprised by the results but critical of the treatment.

After 12 weeks of treatment at 3 weekly intervals a recent scan showed all my tumours had disappeared or reduced in size significantly. I am certain I am on the road to full remission. I have suffered very limited side effects and now have an excellent quality of life. The treatment is not cheap but we consider it money well spent, I would be dead now without this treatment, my recovery to date is like a miracle.

From here, we move forward into largely uncharted territory, this is new treatment so there is limited information about long term survival. However, I am confident that I am not now going to die in the near future and if I only get a year or two of good quality life it will be more than worth it to my wife and I.

  • Matthew from Australia, Sarcoma 3 January 2017

We hope you had a good start into the new year and want to begin this year by sharing with you two testimonials.

As you can imagine, we do not only meet and treat new patients, but also meet their loved ones, families and friends. They also suffer and have to cope with many new situations, but are most important for our patients, as they give support, hope and comfort.

Thanks to all our patients’ families and friends who accompany our patients here at the Hallwang clinic!

Matt, a young gentleman with sarcoma, and his mother Jennifer travelled all the way from Australia to us, here you can read about their experience at the clinic.

    Matt:
“Hallwang clinic have not only shown how advanced their approach to treating cancer is, but how patient orientated their medical team are. After being diagnosed with a rare form of sarcoma in 2014 and then exhausting all available avenues in Australia I looked abroad, and came across this clinic. After making the journey to the clinic, the team made the process of getting treated for cancer as painless as it should be. Everything was laid out before me, and I was offered a targeted approach, something which had not been offered to me previously. After two visits to the clinic I saw and felt a noticeable difference with my tumors. It is safe to say that the targeted has worked in my case, and I’m very pleased with the results. I’m had some major concerns here in Australia, with some clinics I had visited, with their medical hygiene practices, some which left alot to be desired! Hallwang’s clinic approach to hygiene was superb and didn’t leave me questioning anything.”

    Jennifer:
“After the initial shock of being told my 24yo son had cancer, we were told it was a wait and see prognosis, and only surgery was required. This was definitely NOT the case. His diagnosis was then changed to extremely rare and highly aggressive, so 9 surgeries followed in an 11 month time frame, and numerous bouts of chemo and radiation. His health became much worse, and the cancer was now metastatic, with no known case histories in Australia and only a few world wide. We had exhausted all avenues here, and also with testing in the united states, all with zero results or options for a positive outcome. Hallwang and their staff were brilliant in their approach. They came up with a targeted therapy and treatment plan, which Matt and the Drs here are still following. From the time you walk in the door there, treatment starts happening. There are no “wait and see” approaches, which as we know do not work and allow for the spread of disease. We cannot thank the lovely nursing staff, kitchen staff, receptionists, plus the doctors for their attention to detail, care and looking outside the box approach.”

  • Update on Elizabeth, Ovarian cancer 27 November 2016

Months ago, we posted Elizabeth´s (on the right in the picture) cancer story. We were happy to see the progress she made after she had been sent home to die because of her progressive ovarian cancer, and arrived at our clinic in a miserable state but filled with hope and determination. Given her poor condition, initial treatment possibilities were limited, but we came up with a treatment strategy that allowed her to regain strength and reduce tumor load. Step by step, Elizabeth regained her ability to walk, sit and eat without any restriction. Now, few weeks after our first post on her improved and amazing recovery, we are happy to share with you the fantastic news: After intense combined immunotherapeutic treatment protocols, a tumor debulking surgery could be performed and Elizabeth is now in complete remission! We are so incredibly happy for her!

  • Alice from France, Triple-negative breast cancer 12 September 2016

Triple negative breast cancer has a worse prognosis and often relapses early compared with other subtypes of breast cancer. It is characterized by the lack of expression of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and HER2. Several agents are currently being investigated as potential therapeutic agents for the treatment of TNBC. A promising treatment strategy in breast cancer is the use of immunotherapy. See here Alice, she had a very agressive relapse of TNBC before she came to our clinic. She received a combined immunotherapeutic treatment approach and is now almost in complete remission! We are so happy for you!

We came to the Hallwang oncology clinic because Alice was treated in France for a very agressive relapse of a triple negative breast cancer in April 2016. Unfortunately the chemotherapy treatment given in France gave no result and it was impossible to have an immunotherapy in France either in a clinical trial or directly. After 8 weeks of targeted immunotherapy treatment in Hallwang combined with a chemotherapy in France, Alice has been in a almost complete remission

  • Robert, Tongue cancer 8 August 2016

See the happy couple Robert and his lovely wife at our Hallwang clinic, shortly after receiving the latest PET Scan results! Robert was diagnosed with tongue cancer in 2015 and came to our clinic for further treatment. After identification of treatment targets on his tumor cells, he was treated with combined immunotherapy, targeting his cancer cells. His most recent PET scan shows no evidence of active, hypermetabolic tumor anymore. Robert still needs follow-up treatment, but we are so happy about these interim results!

  • Mark from Australia, Breast Cancer 7 July 2016

I am 47 years of age, male, and had stage 3 Breast Cancer in 2006. I received a mastectomy, Chemotherapy and was on hormone treatment, Tamoxifen, for 5 years. My cancer returned as stage 4 in 2014 and was in 14 of my lymph nodes and had metastasized to the lungs. My Oncologists in Australia could not offer me any new treatments and didn’t offer much hope, so I decided to make the trip to Germany due to their range of innovative, non-invasive treatments. They also have experience with male Breast Cancer unlike in Australia. I arrived at Hallwang Clinic July 2014, and stayed for just over 3 weeks. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and personalized treatment I received. I had little, if no side effects and I found the doctors at Hallwang to always have my best interest at heart.

When I returned to Australia, I continued to eat healthily with my no sugar, no carbohydrates diet and incorporated organic food into my life. Hallwang clinic also supplied me with 3 months of treatment to take home. I knew at any time if I had any questions, I could contact the doctors there. I also continued with Infusions and Hyperthermia treatments at home.

My PET scan back in Australia, to my immense joy, has revealed that my cancer is now totally gone. I can only regard the treatment I received while at Hallwang Clinic as truly lifesaving.

  • Elizabeth, Ovarian cancer 21 June 2016

In the last weeks we have been sharing stories of some of our patients with you. We admire the strength and courage of our patients to share these intimate details with the world. Elizabeth, one of our lovely patients, wants to encourage other patients not to give up on life, even if others told you that there is nothing that can be done anymore. Elizabeth arrived at our clinic with a private jet (air ambulance), as no airline would take her in her past condition. She was given little time left to live and the paramedics that accompanied her to our clinic wondered why we were receiving patients that were already dying. Please look at her pictures from a couple of months ago and now, and let us share the joy and hope Elizabeth has brought to our clinic! She still needs treatment to fight her metastatic ovarian cancer, but she is on the right track!
